Rice exporters pessimistic about market prospects
Vichai Sriprasert, another honorary president, said rice exporters were worried about the impact of falling oil prices on the African market, particularly Nigeria. Nigeria normally buys about 3 million tonnes of Thai rice, but last year it imported only 644,000 tonnes.

"Myanmar coming into the market will take away some markets from Thailand, worsening Thai rice exports," said Vichai Sriprasert, honorary president of Thai Rice Exporters Association. "In the long run, Myanmar has the potential to become the top exporter because of its fertile land and water."
